So many people talk about making bold moves. So few talk about how long you have to stand in uncertainty to make a meaningful one. I’ve had my share of liminal spaces — the uncertain in-betweens after what was and before what’s next. But nothing has stretched me like this one: Building this business has been my longest stretch of liminality yet. ➡️ Living inside uncertainty (I definitely have a long-term lease!) ➡️ Experimenting forward (and sideways... and backwards, sometimes) ➡️ Learning when to hold firm to my vision — and when to adjust it
To not only survive, but thrive, I'm employing every.single.one of my liminal techniques. But if I lost them all and only was allowed to keep one... I'd want it to be this one:
Me, innocently walking near the house I'd soon lose, thanks to a hurricane (hello, liminal, my old friend!)
My community: My fellow liminal travelers.
I've got all the liminal skills, believe me. And thank goodness I do. But they’d be nothing without the people in the arena with me. Not my sideline support team — though they're great — but the people who know exactly what I’m going through.
And this brings me to something I’ve been building:
In the past year, I’ve written 48 newsletters and 39 blog posts on liminal spaces, sharing insights, wisdom, and stories — all tested through real-life experiences. (You might think I’d run out of things to say, but alas — I’m just getting started 🤣.) I’ve supported hundreds of people through transitions, whether 1:1, in small groups, or in larger circles.
And all of that is woven into my upcoming short course and pop-up community.
So in today's newsletter, allow me to share more...
It's not just design. I've also woven in the mindsets and practices of somatic experiencing — because the older I get, the more I realize: ✨ Moving with intention is essential (design). ✨ Moving with your nervous system intact is non-negotiable (somatics).
Part of nervous-system regulation? Being in community.
Liminal by Design is a live short course and pop-up community where we apply design principles directly to the liminal space — that stretch between what was and what's next.
You’ll leave with: ✅ A fresh lens on the in-between (and why it’s richer than you may realize) ✅ Tools to navigate change with curiosity and intention ✅ A small, doable experiment to help you move forward right away ✅ A community of fellow liminal-goers, with a dedicated pop-up community space! (our very own group of liminal travelers) ✨ Live May 9, 11:00am–1:30pm ET (recording included if you can’t join live)
Whether you're a seasoned traveler through the liminal or an occasional visitor...
...it’s always better with company — to share the (in)sights, swap stories of 'you won’t believe what happened today,' and celebrate the awe-filled moments along the way.
No matter what your liminal space is—work, home, relationships, or something else—if it speaks to you now, I would love to see you there!

P.P.S. Wandering through a liminal stretch — but not up for the course? LMK and I’ll make sure you’re just getting the Friday Liminal Dispatch. I’ll be here with tools and company whenever it feels helpful.
I’m so glad you’re here! Thank you for joining me in this corner of the world where we’re committed to imperfect sideways steps that get us moving. Together, we’ll make all the sideways, backwards, and forward steps we please until we’re exactly where we hoped to be. Subscribe here:
